Diagnostic Visit Terms and Conditions

Last updated: November 1, 2026

These terms apply when you book and prepay a diagnostic visit with Authority Home Appliance LLC.

The short version

The $129 diagnostic covers one trip and diagnosis of one appliance, with a written flat-rate estimate before any repair. It is fully credited to the final quoted and approved repair cost. Your booking is a request until we confirm it by email; if we can't confirm a time that works for you, you get a full refund. Cancel or reschedule free with at least 24 hours' notice. Late cancellations and missed appointments are not refunded. If you decline the repair, the $129 is the only charge.

1. What the $129 diagnostic covers

  • One trip to your home within our service area, from Goleta to Malibu. There is no travel premium anywhere in that area.
  • Diagnosis of one appliance by our technician.
  • A written flat-rate estimate for the repair, covering labor and parts, before any repair work begins.
  • Each additional appliance diagnosed on the same visit is $50.
  • A priority same-day visit, when available, is $279.

2. Credit toward your repair

The $129 is fully credited to the final quoted and approved repair cost. On a priority same-day visit, $129 of the $279 is credited the same way. The credit applies to the repair of the appliance we diagnosed, when you approve that repair within 30 days of the visit.

3. Booking and confirmation

  • An online booking is a request for the arrival window you chose. Your appointment is set once you receive our confirmation email.
  • If we can't confirm your window and you don't accept another time we offer, we refund the full fee.
  • We work Monday through Friday in 3-hour arrival windows between 8 AM and 4 PM. On the morning of service, we'll give you a narrower arrival time.

4. Cancellations, rescheduling and refunds

  • Cancel or reschedule free with at least 24 hours' notice before your arrival window. A cancellation with notice is refunded in full.
  • Cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice, and missed appointments where no adult is home or we can't reach the appliance, are not refunded.
  • If we have to cancel or can't arrive in your window, you choose a new time or a full refund.
  • Refunds go back to your original payment method, usually within 5 to 10 business days.

5. The visit

  • An adult 18 or older must be present for the whole visit.
  • The appliance needs to be reachable. Clear the area around it, and for built-in units, the cabinet panels and trim.
  • We may decline or stop work if conditions aren't safe, such as a gas smell, active water or electrical hazards, pests or mold. Shut off gas and call your gas company first if you smell gas.
  • If the appliance is still under its manufacturer's warranty, contact the manufacturer first. Their warranty may cover the repair at no cost to you.
  • If you have a home warranty, open a claim with your provider and ask for Authority Home Appliance. Don't prepay here: the warranty company handles the service fee.

6. Estimates and approval

  • As California requires, you get a written estimate before any repair begins. We won't charge more than the approved estimate without your consent.
  • Repair labor is a flat rate per appliance by repair tier, never hourly. Current prices are on our Cost page.
  • Parts are quoted and approved by you before anything is ordered.
  • If you decline the repair, the diagnostic fee is the only charge.
  • If a repair would cost more than about half the price of a comparable new appliance, we tell you in writing so you can decide with the full picture.

7. Parts and warranty

  • We supply every part so we can stand behind the repair. We don't install parts supplied by the customer.
  • Repairs carry a 90-day labor warranty from the day the repair is completed. Parts carry their manufacturer's warranty, noted on your invoice.
  • Diagnosis guarantee: if a part we replace on our diagnosis doesn't fix the problem, you aren't charged for that part or the labor to install it.
  • The diagnostic fee isn't refundable once the diagnosis is done, including when the appliance isn't worth repairing or you decide not to repair it.

8. Payment

  • The diagnostic fee is paid when you book, through our website's secure checkout. The final quoted repair is billed when the repair is complete.
  • For repairs, we accept credit and debit cards, cash, check, Zelle and Venmo.
  • California sales tax applies to parts only, not labor or the diagnostic fee.
